Time Magazine

TIME magazine is the premier weekly news source for up-to-the-minute information on the world, politics, business, finance, health, technology, education and more.

The Project.
Futuretec. were commissioned to assist with the WAN Infrastructure design, then taking the lead for the installation of the relocated Hong Kong office. Using the Ring Central solution, already tested and installed in London by FT as a model to roll out VoIP in Hong Kong. This would form the integral global standard network design for Time Magazine sites going forward.

The Requirements.
Purchase New Cisco Meraki network kit and software as follows:

  • Meraki MX router should be licensed for firewall plus AMP/AV and IDP, site-to-site VPN, client VPN, and reporting.

  • Meraki access switch should be licensed for multiple VLANs and reporting

  • Meraki WAPs should support "guest" and "secure" networks using WPA2-PSK, at least; and reporting.

  • Global team to install new kit

  • Relocation from Oxford House to Sun Life Tower

  • Configure the Meraki kit for users in Singapore and Shanghai can VPN into the HK network.

The Solution.
Due diligence was adhered, to ensure connectivity and accessibility:

  • Global team relocated the desktop equipment from the old office based at Oxford House to Sun Life Tower

  • Futuretec remotely accessed the Meraki gears to  complete the configuration.

  • Futuretec configured the Meraki kit for users in Singapore and Shanghai so they can VPN into the HK network.

  • Futuretec established a Site to Site VPN tunnel between Meraki Device and HK Colo router.

  • Futuretec worked with RingCentral and remotely configured each phone for the end users.

  • Online training, videos and manuals were provided.

The Challenges.
The office set up at Hong Kong uses a serviced office space, we do not have direct contact with the Telco’s as the building management has a given connectivity using their own dedicated telco.

We overcame this by choosing how much dedicated bandwidth we preferred and are willing to pay for. Based on our previous office usage of being capped at 200mbs (and never experiencing any pressure at that capacity), we opted for 200mbs.

C.RO Ports Purfleet

A large shipping company based in Purfleet and Killingholme specialising in the automotive and container importation.

Project.
Futuretec Solution were commissioned to provide a fibre optic solution to support the new HD CCTV and WIFI network. A 1G/b and a 10G/b singlemode loop to encompass the Port perimeter was agreed. Approximately 18 Kilometres of fibre was to be installed to replace the existing OM1 62.5 topology. Installation of 2000 meters of new heavy gauge 150mm tray was also included.

The Solution.
Installation of two singlemode Steel Wired Armoured cables to be run adjacently within underground ductwork on existing and new tray work. Cable to be fixed with steel cable ties and to be made off with SWA glands, all fibres terminated into LC 1u patch panels.

29 stainless steel IP Rated comms cabinets were positioned strategically around the site, with 20meter mast to allow CCTV and WIFI access points to be mounted. Copper Cat6a cables were to be installed from the network switches mounted within the cabinets to the cameras and AP’s.

Challenges.
The port presented plenty of challenges, with the continual movement of heavy lift equipment and container lorry’s health and safety was of paramount importance, engineers had to very alert and aware of their surroundings, prior to any work commencing locations had to be agreed with the port Health and safety officer and the correct safety barriers erected. The engineers were continually monitored to ensure they complied with the health and safety rules.

Conclusion.
The project was completed within the time scale agreed and under budget, no health and safety breaches or accidents were recorded, the client inspected the installation thoroughly and concluded it was outstanding.
